In the Flevoland region, the fast growth of Logistic centers, such as for Inditex, Bol.com, Jysk and more, there is an increasing need to provide Accommodation for Expats who come to execute the building projects as well as expat that are employed as fixed staff.
The Real Estate Companies in Flevoland are finding new ways to provide building contractors, management of the new distribution centers and the expat workers with proper accommodation.
In order to accommodate the growth, the Municipalities in Flevoland have assigned several locations to accommodate expat workers.
- In order to form a coherent Policy, the Municipality of Lelystad has determined three categories of accommodation:
- Short stay – stay up to one year
- Mid stay – stay between one and three years
- Long stay – stay longer than three years or permanent residence
Although the Municipality feels that anyone should be able to make their own accommodation choices, these stay periods usually correspond to the above different segments of accommodation.
Short stay accommodation:
For people who are only staying here for a short time and/or have just arrived, a lodging form is often an attractive form of accommodation. People then
often do not have the time or need to find and furnish their own place and find it pleasant to have recreational facilities within reach. Often, sharing things such as eating or cooking facilities, or sanitary facilities within certain limits is also not a problem.
Mid stay accommodation:
Those who are here for a longer period will have higher demands on privacy and having their own place and facilities. The housing demand that then arises is
comparable to what is common here for student rooms or other forms of flexible living. At least their own room, cooking facilities and their own sanitary facilities. But small and some things can still be shared.
Long stay housing;
Migrant workers who stay here for several years or permanently usually want to live just like everyone else. They search and find their way on the housing market and buy or rent a regular house. They also experience the same opportunities and obstacles as everyone else and of course that varies greatly per housing market region.
- Various studies show that the expected housing demand distribution for migrant workers, segmented by their expected length of stay, is as follows:
- Short stay 40%
- Mid stay 40%
- Long stay 30%
